Planning Social Marketing
Initial class February 26, 2009, at the Bloomfield Township Public Library, Meeting Rm. #1, located at 1099 Lone Pine Rd. in Bloomfield Hills, MI 48302-2410, from 9:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m.; future classes TBD
Social Marketing applies commercial marketing techniques to inspire change on social issues. Even though it is similar to commercial advertising, it does have very important differences. Take the class and find out what makes Social Marketing unique. And learn the steps to plan, produce, and execute an effective social marketing campaign in your community.
For the coalitions, this is an important class. You will be given the tools to devise your local social marketing campaign designed to prevent youth from driving with someone who has been drinking. This supports the statewide goal to reduce alcohol-related traffic crash injuries.
Camille Cooke, the new social marketing coordinator for the Alliance of Coalitions for Healthy Communities, will conduct this class.

Communities Mobilizing for Change on Alcohol (CMCA) is a nationally recognized program, and the ACHC is thrilled to provide this training. It is an evidence-based program that will mobilize Oakland County, so we can reduce underage drinking. CMCA promotes a community-organizing strategy that will provide an assessment of the factors that allow minors to have easy access to alcohol.
Most Oakland County youth say alcohol is either easy or very easy to get according to county-level youth surveys. Too many youth drink alcohol. And the CMCA training points to easy access as a major factor in creating this problem. Learn the techniques that will allow you to affect this issue in the legal, social, institutional, and health sectors.
Youth Leadership Institute provides the instructors to teach the three intensive two-day trainings. At the end of the six days, you’ll be prepared to implement the CMCA strategy in your neighborhoods. The trainings will be 9:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m. March 23-24, May 18-19, and September 24-25. Participants are asked to attend all six days of the trainings. The Oakland County Sheriff’s Office will host the trainings in March and May at the Training Room in the Sheriff’s Office at 1200 N. Telegraph Rd., Bldg 38 East in Pontiac, Michigan. ACHC is still seeking a location for the training September 24-25, 2009, so if you have any suggestions, please email us.

This training is particularly important to parents and educators who desire a successful college education for the youth in their lives. Darren Lubbers, Ph.D., is the Consultant and Evaluator for the Alliance of Coalitions for Healthy Communities. He provides his extensive experience in prevention for this training.
