What is your position on smoke-free Michigan or smoke-free Oakland County (depending on office sought)?

Any smoke free initiative must be consistently applied state-wide. While I generally support the concept that the marketplace should dictate change, I recognize that this is also an issue of health and safety for the employees as well.

What is your position on the medical marijuana ballot initiative?

I am against it. I don’t believe this exception should be made in the current law.

How would you address the issue of underage drinking?

I support any and all efforts to educate underage drinkers and their parents in the dangers of alcohol use. These efforts include teen forums, educational newsletters to parents and teens, enforcement of current laws against selling or otherwise providing alcohol to underage drinkers. I also support your organization’s initiative to place stickers on multi-packs of alcohol.

What is your position on using liquor license revenue as a way to generate additional revenue for the state and local municipalities?

If the implication is that there should be more licenses issued in order to generate this increased revenue, then I oppose it. If the revenue generated will be earmarked towards the programs listed above, then I would support that initiative.

What have you done to support substance abuse prevention in your community?

Under my personal initiative, I was instrumental in establishing, while I was on the Novi City Council, a program of having a Community Resource Police Officer in the Novi Public Schools. In addition, I was one of the first members of the Novi Community That Cares Coalition, one of a broad range of citizen action organizations whose purpose was to work together to prevent the abuse of alcohol and other drugs.
