What is your position on smoke-free Michigan or smoke-free Oakland County (depending on office sought)?
I am in favor of both a smoke-free Michigan and a smoke-free Oakland County.
What is your position on the medical marijuana ballot initiative?
I would be opposed to the use of marijuana for medical purposes and would oppose any such ballot initiative.
How would you address the issue of underage drinking?
Underage drinking needs to be addressed, in my opinion, on several fronts. Parents and chaperones must be held responsible for condoning/encouraging underage drinking. Underage drinkers must be held responsible for their own actions. Awareness programs sponsored by schools, the faith-based community, and coalitions such as yours will play an important role in addressing this issue. The success in solving this issue ultimately comes from family education, and positive peer pressure.
What is your position on using liquor license revenue as a way to generate additional revenue for the state and local municipalities?
Since I think it would be safe to say that current recipients of liquor license revenue would not be willing to reduce their share of the revenue pot, I would be opposed to any increase in liquor license revenue for any purpose.
What have you done to support substance abuse prevention in your community?
Living in the Lakes and Huron Valley Area of Oakland County, I have been a 35 year member and contributor to the Carl’s Family YMCA where no one is denied access to our programs because of a lack of ability to pay. At the YMCA, caring, honesty, respect, and responsibility are our core values. Our branch is one of the leaders in developing “The 40 Developmental Assets” for use throughout the Metropolitan YMCA of Detroit. I am an active supporter monetarily and with in-kind donations to both the Lakes Area and Huron Valley Youth Assistance Programs. |
