What is your position on smoke-free Michigan or smoke-free Oakland County (depending on office sought)?
My first choice is to let the private sector continue to address the issue. Michigan has more non-smoking businesses than ever. However, if this needs to be fully accomplished by the government, I would like to see this done on a State-wide basis. To have a mix of smoking/non-smoking communities or counties around the state causes confusion for both residents and tourists.
What is your position on the medical marijuana ballot initiative?
I strongly oppose legalizing marijuana for any purpose.
How would you address the issue of underage drinking?
We need to lead by example whether we’re elected officials or parents. Community Coalitions work to strengthen community opinion by showing the dangers of underage drinking through their community education programs which I fully support.
What is your position on using liquor license revenue as a way to generate additional revenue for the state and local municipalities?
It is a fact that for the next several years, local government revenue will be falling but I don’t approve of supporting government with liquor tax revenue since it sends a bad message to our children – drink more and support local government. Government MUST restructure over the next several years and not look for a quick revenue fix because there really isn’t one.
What have you done to support substance abuse prevention in your community?
As a County Commissioner, I’ve set a good example for the youth of our community and have worked with our Community Coalition over the years to educate the community on the dangers of substance abuse and I am a Rochester Area Youth Assistance board member. |
